Timetable for Price's return moved up
LHP David Price was raving Monday about how good he felt in his 45-pitch bullpen session.
The Rays apparently felt that way, too, as they decided Tuesday to slightly accelerate the schedule for his return.
Rather than throw a third bullpen session, Price - who had been out since mid-May with a triceps strain - will throw a simulated game on Thursday at the Trop and if all goes well will then begin a three-start minor-league rehab assignment.
If he gets through that as scheduled, he would rejoin the Rays in time to make four starts before the All-Star break, which means his first start back would be no later than June 29.
"We're going to attempt to get him out sooner because he threw so well yesterday,'' manager Joe Maddon said.
Price, by the way, said he had not heard anything, such as an apology, from umpire Tom Hallion, who is working his first Rays games since the April 28 confrontation in Chicago.
