Tuesday morning report: Rays vs. Red Sox, final cuts coming?

UPDATE, 11:41: A week after RHP Alex Cobb spoke out about the lack of progress in getting out examples of the new protective caps for pitchers, a rep was in Port Charlotte on Tuesday to show off models.

Cobb, who was struck by a liner last June, said the current version is not practical to wear, but called it progress and a step in the right direction.

UPDATE, 11:30: Maddon confirmed they have informed the players of their plans regarding final cuts - subject to something happening unexpectedly over final days - and will announce them after the game.

UPDATE, 9:52: The Rays appear to be in the process of setting their final roster, as several of the candidates for jobs have been in manager Joe Maddon's office.

Here is the Red Sox lineup:
Nava LF,
Pedroia 2B,
Carp DH,
Napoli 1B,
Sizemore CF,
Bogaerts SS,
Pierzynski C,
Middlebrooks 3B,

DEVELOPING: The Rays are optimistic about the weather report and expect to be able to play today's game against the Red Sox.

RHP Jake Odorizzi will be on the mound, starting for the first time since winning a spot in the rotation.

There is expected to be news this morning on the status of LHP Erik Bedard, who the Rays are hoping will take a Triple-A assignment but may seek a big-league gig elsewhere.

Here is the Rays lineup:

DeJesus cf,
Myers rf,
Zobrist 2b,
Longoria 3b,
