Ump Culbreth takes full responsibility for Thursday controversy, "absolutely okay" with discipline

Umpire Fieldin Culbreth took full responsibility for Thursday's controversy in the Angels-Astros game regarding a pitching change and said he was "absolutely okay" with the two-game suspension and fines handed down.

What happenened, in short: "We got confused.''

Here is the full text of his comments:

(what is your reaction to discipline handed down today?)
"I look at it that baseball has high standards for their umpires and I have high standards for myself and I didn't meet those standards last night, so I am absolutely okay with everything.''

(what exactly happened, did Bo Porter's explanation throw you off?)
"We just got to cross-sectioning different rules within the changing of a pitcher, and just had a hard time getting back on track from that. We got confused.''

(your other umpires didn't say anything so you let Porter proceed?)
"At that point we thought we were doing right. We now know that we were doing wrong.''

(did Porter apologizing make you feel any better?)
"I look at it that the players and the managers, they go out and play the game and it is our job, whether they are knowingly or unknowingly getting outside the boundaries to get them back in, and I fell short of keeping them inside those lines. And that falls on me.''

(so you are taking full responsibility?)
"I'm taking all the responsibility.''
