Rays-Red Sox rained out
UPDATE, 2:48: Per Fenway Park staff, today's Rays-Red Sox game is called off. A makeup date is likely to come in June.
UPDATE, 12:29: And the rain has started.
DEVELOPING: After having Thursday off, the Rays are eager to get back on the field tonight to play the Red Sox here in Boston, but an unfavorable forecast makes that seems unlikely at this time.
Though it was a dryer morning in Boston than expected, the weather.com forecast calls for heavy rain and winds starting by late afternoon and contunuing into the night.
RHP Alex Cobb is supposed to pitch for the Rays in the opener of the four-game series vs. Boston LHP Felix Doubront.
It is not clear yet what the teams would do in the event of a rainout. They are scheduled for day games on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so a split double-header is possible, or they could wait for the Rays to return.
They have a two-game series in Boston (with the previous day off) on June 18-19, and another four-game set July 22-25, though that is in the middle of a post-All-Star break 10-game trip to Toronto, Boston and New York.
If they are rained out and you need a baseball fix, the new Jackie Robinson movie, 42, opens tonight. We wrote about it, and what some key Rays think of it, in today's paper.
More, as they say, when we hear it.
