Florida State receiver Cameron Wade's misdemeanor fighting case appears headed for trial

Florida State receiver Cameron Wade appears headed for a trial next month on the simple battery charge he faces in connection with an on-campus brawl between members of the football team and a fraternity last November.

Wade will have a pre-trial hearing on Aug. 12 with jury selection set for Aug. 14.

FSU police said Wade threw the first punch. He and receiver Bert Reed were arrested and each charged with a misdemeanor. Six months later, a third receiver, Richard Goodman, was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery in the case; a female student who was a bystander was injured when she was hit by a chair. Police continued to investigate until it finally arrested Goodman. In accordance with athletic department policy, was suspended indefinitely until the felony charge is resolved.

No members of the fraternity were arrested.
