Florida State receiver Rod Owens resolves his DUI case
Florida State wide receiver Rod Owens, arrested and charged with DUI in April, resolved his case on Wednesday afternoon.
Owens pleaded no contest and received the minimum under the statute for a first-time offender, said his Tallahassee-based attorney Don Pumphrey, Jr.
That includes six months probation, 50 hours of community service, six months of having his driver's license revoked and DUI school (which he's already completed). The probation can be terminated early. He also has volunteered to join Pumphrey on visits to Leon County area high schools and groups at both FSU and Florida A&M to talk about making the right choices.
"The University should be proud, not of the choice he made, but the way he's accepted responsibility for the choice,'' Pumphrey said.
In addition to those obligations, Owens, a fifth-year senior from Jacksonville who is coming off his best season (15 catches for 183 yards), could face a penalty from the school, such as a one-game suspension.
