Nigel Carr arrested on burglary, fraud charges

Florida State junior Nigel Carr, named the most dependable linebacker after the spring, was arrested in Tallahassee on two felony and two misdemeanor charges.

Carr, 20, faces five different counts, including two counts of felony burglary of an unoccupied structure (he was unarmed), felony fraud (attempting to use someone else’s identification), property damage (a misdemeanor since it was less than $200) and larceny (taking a credit card, another misdemeanor).

He was booked into the Leon County jail at 12:47 a.m. on Monday and was released at 3:12 a.m. after posting a total of $15,750 bond. Tallahassee Police say Carr was arrested last Thursday for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop.

In the latest case, Carr faces an automatic suspension from the team. According to FSU’s Athletics Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy, any student-athlete, absent extraordinary circumstances as determined by the administration, facing a felony will not be permitted to represent FSU in a game until the felony charge is resolved “and all court, university and athletics department conditions for reinstatement have been met.''

The Tallahassee Police probable cause affidavit states that at 11:09 a.m. on Sunday, a witness heard a car alarm and “banging noises’’ and saw a black male in the rear of a white Toyota SUV. The male got out of the Toyota and entered a white full-sized vehicle and left, the report says. The Toyota owner told police was broken into (the passenger side rear window was smashed) and a book bag that contained her purse and other items was gone as well as a blue sweater.

About an hour later, the woman was checking the dumpsters nearby looking for her stolen property and spotted a car that the witness had described. She then saw her book bag, books and purse in a dumpster near that car as well as a silver checkbook that belonged to a victim of a car burglary that was reported on Saturday.

Police responded and an officer looked in white car and saw a piece of paper on the floorboard with the name of the woman’s father and a Visa credit card number. A Visa with the woman’s photo and name was also on the floorboard, according to the probable cause affidavit. A blue sweater was on the front seat.

Police then viewed video of the complex that showed a white car matching the suspect’s pull up to the dumpster and a black male “fitting a general description of Carr’’ throwing something away. That led to Carr’s arrest.

Carr is the second FSU arrest this summer. Reserve safety Ed Imeokparia was arrested and also charged with a felony, grand theft, in connection with a stolen cellular telephone from a Panama City store. He has an Aug. 5 arraignment.
