We the Kings, 'Nebraska Avenue' and more

Maggiecouncil

-- Tampa singer-songwriter Maggie Council, above, scored some cool recognition recently -- Nebraska Avenue, her ode to her hometown, was featured on the quarterly showcase sampler from the British mag Fatea. "It's the first time in over 20 years of that publication's existence that they've featured work by an American artist," Council said. To listen to Nebraska Avenue, click here -- and then go here to get the full story on the song.

-- Travis Clark of Bradenton's We the Kings shares the story of how he (probably) got food poisoning from a hot dog, and then, for good measure, shares a photo of himself getting a shot in the butt.

-- Orlando's Kingsbury are giving away everything they've ever recorded, including their new EP Lie to Me, as free mp3 downloads. That's FREE, no questions asked. If you'd like to thank them in person, they'll be performing at 9 p.m. Friday at New World Brewery. Tickets are $8.

-- Tampa label 24 Hour Service Station is creating a New Order tribute album called Ceremony. If you want to submit a song for consideration, tell them about it.

-- Local jazz and soul singer Tina Lad'e was killed in a suspected DUI crash Sunday morning in Tampa.
