Artist of the day: Christie Len?©e

Christie_Lenee

Twenty-three-year-old Christie Len?©e is a classically trained guitarist whose hodgepodge of styles blends funky jazz with jammy acoustic pop, a la Dave Matthews Band, Ani DiFranco or a more laid-back Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

A big fan of DMB -- she opened for guitarist Tim Reynolds at Skipper's Smokehouse a couple of years ago -- Len?©e has spent two and a half years composing, arranging and recording her new album Set it Free, which comes out next month.

"There‚Äôs some really funky songs on the album," said Len?©e. "There‚Äôs an instrumental, an acoustic guitar song that‚Äôs really high-energy, a couple of ballads on there. Definitely a folk-funk-jazz kind of feel."

Len?©e moved up to Philadelphia last year to study music composition and jazz guitar performance, but she returns to Tampa frequently, and is gearing up for a big album release party at Skipper's on June 28.

This week, Len?©e is playing four shows in Tampa. Click here to listen to an mp3 of her song Set it Free, then check her out live at one of the shows below:

Tuesday: Yeomans Road Pub, Davis Islands (acoustic)

Wednesday: Sacred Grounds, Tampa

Thursday: Yeomans Road Pub, Davis Islands (full band, pre-album release party)

Friday: Tre Amici @ The Bunker, Ybor City

50rockWhy would anyone voluntarily attempt to see 50 concerts at 50 different venues in a single summer? Jay Cridlin shrugged and thought: Eh, why not.
