Great gigs for GreyMarket, DJ Ravi Drums

Greymarket9

Two stellar live acts with Tampa Bay ties have landed some prime-time gigs.

GreyMarket, above, are opening for the Hold Steady July 2 at the Ritz Ybor. That much, you knew. But did you ALSO know that they're opening for Peter Murphy of Bauhaus at Jannus Landing on June 25, and Awesome New Republic at Crowbar on June 30? 'Tis true.

"Rob Douglas from Jannus reached out to us for the Peter Murphy show, which was extremely awesome of him," said GreyMarket's L. Cave McCoy. "It's pretty crazy that we're getting the three of the biggest bills we've ever played within a week and a half of each other."

Also, Chamberlain High grad DJ Ravi Drums, a former house DJ at the Playboy Mansion and MTV Video Music Awards, and musical director for Howie Mandel's Howie Do It, is the musical headliner at Shepherd's Fourth of July Weekend bash in Clearwater.

Ravi Drums is a sight to behold live, playing drums (natch) in the midst of his DJ duties. He's performing on the Tiki Deck at 10:30 p.m. July 4. But Shephard's Fourth of July Pary lasts all weekend.

Admission Friday and Saturday is $10 for Florida residents, $12 for out-of-state; and $7/$10 on Sunday. Military members get in free all weekend.

50rockWhy would anyone voluntarily attempt to see 50 concerts at 50 different venues in a single summer? Jay Cridlin shrugged and thought: Eh, why not.
