Joe Perry: Tampa Aerosmith concert canceled

 Aerosmith2

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry went on The Cowhead Show on 102.5 The Bone Friday afternoon to confirm what we'd all expected: Aerosmith's concert Saturday at Tampa's Ford Amphitheatre has been cancelled, due to an unspecified injury suffered by singer Steven Tyler.

"I hate to call with bad news," he told the host. "I'd really much rather be playing tomorrow night."

The guitarist told the host Aerosmith would reschedule the show for sometime around October. A live Nation promoter told tbt* no date has been set, but the rescheduled show will likely take place on a Saturday, and tickets for the canceled show will still be good then.

"The weather might be better," Perry told Cowhead. "The way it's been raining and thundering and stuff, I think it might be a better time of the year to play."

Perry, who has a home in Sarasota, was calling the station while driving on U.S. 41. And he threw in this little tidbit at the end of the interview: Since the band isn't playing Saturday, he'll be participating in the SunCoast Reef Cleanup, a beach cleanup at the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota. So if you're desperate to see someone from Aerosmith this weekend, do your part and join in.

"You realize you're Joe Perry from Aerosmith, right?" Cowhead asked the guitarist. "You don't have to be out picking up cans on the beach."

"We all still drink the same water," Perry said.
