The Get Up Kids coming to the State Theatre

Getupkids

Back when emo was actually a musical term that made half a lick of sense, and wasn't just some half-assed catch-all used to describe artists ranging from Panic at the Disco to Hawthorne Heights to any dude with a vial of guyliner on his nightstand, the Get Up Kids were most definitely Emo with a capital E. (Though if you asked them what they thought about being called emo, they'd probably deny it. Typical emo kids.)

The Get Up Kids broke up in 2005, but they're getting back together this fall for a reunion tour. And that reunion tour will bring them to the State Theatre in St. Pete on Nov. 14, according to the band's MySpace page.

No official word on openers, but according to Live Nation, Kevin Devine and the Mansions will be opening for the Get Up Kids on Nov. 13 at the House of Blues in Orlando -- and as Orlando goes, so goes Tampa Bay (usually). So there's that.

Based on the tickets for dates that have already been announced, expect tickets to be in the $19-$25 range. We're sure you'll be able to get them at Daddy Kool.

Now if you'll excuse us, we're off to listen to Sunny Day Real Estate and the Promise Ring.

50rockWhy would anyone voluntarily attempt to see 50 concerts at 50 different venues in a single summer? Jay Cridlin shrugged and thought: Eh, why not.
