This week Tampa record label 24 Hour Service Station unveiled the Web site for Ceremony, a New Order tribute album featuring New Order cover songs from artists like Rabbit in the Moon, Kate Havnevik, the Cloud Room, Geri X., the Beauvilles and Sunbears!, above.

The project will benefit the Salford Foundation Trust's Tony Wilson Award, named for the co-founder of Manchester's Factory Records, home to New Order, Joy Division, the Happy Mondays and more.

The album is still in the works, but it's a pretty sharp-looking site. And it contains tributes to Wilson from many of the artists involved, like this one from Pocket's Richard Jankovich, a recent 24 Hour Service Station signee who has done remixes for Beck, Radiohead and Cat Power: "Anyone with that much vision and insight needs to be relished with reckless abandon. The man was a genius."

Sonshine Ward, Marshall Dickson and the team at 24 Hour Service Station are still whittling down the tracklist -- about 46 artists have submitted tracks, usually two apiece, sometimes three. The end result, they hope, will be a double album of New Order covers, along with a bonus disc composed entirely of covers of the song Ceremony.

As avowed aficionados of all things Britrock, we here at Soundcheck are definitely looking forward to this album. We're especially digging the bright 'n' shimmery MGMT-meets-Passion Pit feel of Sunbears!' (above) take on Thieves Like Us, and Christian Webb and Adam Knowles' pulsing, true-to-the-original cover of the title track, Ceremony.

Ceremony was originally slated for a Fall 2009 release, but the label is now considering a release date of Feb. 10, 2010 ... which would have been Tony Wilson's birthday.
