In the mood for a concert? Livekick might be worth a look

Brand.new

Got an e-mail the other day about a Web site called Livekick. The site is built around the idea of going to concerts; you can enter your city and get ticket price alerts, upcoming shows and search by venue and genre.

The most interesting feature to us is a recommendation tab -- enter a show, and it's supposed to recommend shows by similar artists in your city. Sounded intriguing, so we gave it a spin.

We typed in The White Tie Affair (tonight at the State Theatre), and it kicked out shows by Boys Like Girls and Metro Station. Good start.

We entered Brand New, above, (Nov. 5 at the Ritz Ybor) and it came up with Say Anything, Manchester Orchestra and the Forecast. So far, so good.

Then we typed in Pete Yorn (Nov. 12 at Push Ultra Lounge) and Deadmau5 (Nov. 16 at the Ritz Ybor) and it gave us a host of shows that have absolutely nothing to do with Pete Yorn or Deadmau5 -- the Toasters, KMFDM, Ice-T, the Moody Blues, etc. (Although it did also spit out a show that we hadn't heard about, Michelle Shocked at the Beach Theatre.) Other concert searches were spotty, too.

It seems that Livekick is hit and miss with their recommendations, at least so far. But in theory, it's a decent idea. The whole "recommended if you like" deal is pretty played out, but that doesn't mean it's not still useful.

What about you guys? Anyone out there used Livekick? What's your assessment?

50 Concerts

50rockWhy would anyone voluntarily attempt to see 50 concerts at 50 different venues in a single summer? Jay Cridlin shrugged and thought: Eh, why not.
