After a decade as a fixture of the Tampa Bay modern rock scene, Clearwater's Soulfound have decided to call it a career.

"All of us have not been in the same room since April 2009 and we don't plan on ever playing as Soulfound again (never say never but there are no immediate plans)," singer-bassist Ivan Pena wrote on the band's MySpace page. "There is no bad blood and most of us remain friends."

So what happened? According to the band, they hadn't really seen each other since this Creative Loafing interview, and members had already gone on to other things.

Pena, the EEO of Mohawk Bomb Records, and drummer Dan "Disqo" Cano have joined forces in Rise of Saturn, who've been hitting it pretty hard the last year. Guitarist Sam Register is working on a few projects of his own.

And guitarist Jonathan East had suffered from several health problems, including seizure-like symptoms onstage and a knee injury last spring. According to Pena's blog post: "He never let us know how he was and just disappeared from our lives. Last I spoke to him, he was talking about joining the military. Not sure if he did or not, but I wish him the best."

With a Thursday-like sound, the band had a pretty good run around these parts. They formed in Gainesville before moving to Tampa Bay; in the early part of the decade, they received radio airplay on 97X and 98 Rock, appeared on FUSE TV, and their song After The Rush appeared on MTV's Laguna Beach. They were also one of tbt*'s Ultimate Local Bands back in 2007. And they were bilingual, too, recording songs in Spanish.
