Artist of the day: Heather Leigh
Heather Leigh will be performing three times at this year’s Florida Strawberry Festival, which is impressive enough. It’s even more impressive when you realize that in 2008, she fell down a staircase and injured her right vocal cord, meaning her voice might be gone forever.
"After strict vocal rest, therapy and prayer," she said, "it did come back, and I decided never to take it for granted again!"
The proof is in her latest CD, Learn & Live, released in September. It contains 10 tracks of Lilith-ready folk, pop, rock and country, all written by Leigh, who also plays piano and keyboard on the disc.
She performs at festivals and churches around the area, but the next week will be especially big. In addition to two performances (March 7 and 10) with local blues singer Shelly Starks — whose CD Leigh also co-wrote — Leigh will perform a free set at the Florida Strawberry Festival with her own band on March 12. It’ll be a mix of originals and country covers, she said.
You can also look out for Leigh performing on WTSP-Ch. 10’s morning show at 10 a.m. Thursday (3/11), and singing the national anthem before a Phillies-Twins spring training game at Bright House Networks Field on March 13.

50 Concerts
Why would anyone voluntarily attempt to see 50 concerts at 50 different venues in a single summer? Jay Cridlin shrugged and thought: Eh, why not.
