Artist of the day: Stephanie Anderson

Stephanie Anderson
wrote her first song at 12 and started playing guitar at 21, but it wasn't until she moved to Tampa Bay from Washington a decade ago that she began actively pursuing her music career.

For the past nine years, she's been earning a living as a musician, playing in duos and bands and performing solo acoustic sets around town.

This Sunday, Anderson will celebrate the release of her first CD, Broken Sky, with a show at the Chic-a-Boom Room in Dunedin. The concert is from 6 to 10 p.m., and they'll be shooting a video, too.

The album contains several acoustic songs, like the torchy ballad Love Longing, but also a few out-and-out rockers, like Come Together and the reggae-tinged Marry Me.

She says the synth-driven, Sarah McLachlan-like Carry On is her favorite -- it's a tribute to a friend who suffered serious injuries in a car accident -- but she's proud of every song on the album.

"Each song is like a bluepritn of my life over the last 10-15 years," she said. "It is a collection of what I feel are my best, and most personal, songs that I've written so far. I always feel like my best songs are the ones that just come to me, placed in my lap to share with the world."

50rockWhy would anyone voluntarily attempt to see 50 concerts at 50 different venues in a single summer? Jay Cridlin shrugged and thought: Eh, why not.
