SoundBytes: Justin Bieber, Steven Curtis Chapman, Viernes and more

Justin.bieber
-- If someone can explain to us how the hell Justin Bieber is headlining arenas at the age of 16, we'd like to hear it. His summer tour with Sean Kingston will hit Orlando's Amway Arena on Aug. 4, but he's not coming to Tampa.

-- Is Steven Curtis Chapman a woman of faith? No, technically speaking, we suppose he is not. But the Christian music superstar is scheduled to perform at the Women of Faith Conference, Oct. 15-16 at the St. Pete Times Forum. Mandisa is also on the bill.

-- Orlando's Viernes is getting ready to release their debut album on Kanine Records, the home of Grizzly Bear, Surfer Blood and St. Pete's own Blind Man's Colour. The 12-track Sinister Devices is due June 8.

-- In what might be the most insane collection of hip-hop influence ever collected in Tampa at once, Aliyah D. Najm, H. Loraine Smith and Jacida Carter -- the mothers of T-Pain, Ne-Yo and Lil Wayne, respectively -- will be the guests on this Saturday's Motown Maurice Show. The three moms are promoting a talk show concept called "Dinner Table Discussions." The show will be recorded at the Cuban Club, 2010 N 14th St., Ybor City, with seating starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited; click here for details.

-- Did you attend Woodstock? If so, you can get a free ticket to a Classic Albums Live show at the Lakeland Center. Take your pick: The Best of Woodstock (April 29), The Rolling Stones' Let it Bleed (May 20) or the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Are You Experienced (June 26). All you have to do is present proof of your Woodstock presence (ticket stubs, wristbands, commemorative foam fingers, etc.) at the box office. You can also get a free ticket if you were born in 1969. Click here for details.

-- Check out hardcore punks Agnostic Front, May 13 at the Orpheum. Tickets are $17.

-- Check out the new video for A Day to Remember's I'm Made of Wax Larry, What Are You Made Of? (That's the name of a song, and not some educational video hosted by Troy McClure.)

50 Concerts

50rockWhy would anyone voluntarily attempt to see 50 concerts at 50 different venues in a single summer? Jay Cridlin shrugged and thought: Eh, why not.
