2016 Summerland Tour: Sugar Ray, Everclear, more coming to R.O.C. Park in Madeira Beach
The dream of the '90s is alive in Madeira Beach.
The annual Summerland Tour will return to Madeira Beach's R.O.C. Park on July 13, with a '90s-tastic lineup that includes Sugar Ray (Fly, Every Morning), Everclear (Santa Monica, Father of Mine), Lit (My Own Worst Enemy) and Sponge (Plowed). Ticket prices haven't been announced, but they're expected to go on sale this week.
***UPDATE*** Tickets start at $29.95 and go on sale Friday. Click here.
This year's Summerland marks the return of co-founders Mark McGrath and Sugar Ray, which is surprising, considering what Everclear frontman Art Alexakis told us a couple of years ago -- that Sugar Ray just seemed content to tour off their past accomplishments.
"There's something to be said about having the balls to get beyond your fear of resting on your laurels and putting yourself out there with a new record every two years," he said. "That's something I respect in people, and that's something where me and Mark differ."
More interestingly for local audiences, it marks the return of music to R.O.C. Park, which tried to make a go of it as a concert venue last fall, hosting not only Summerland 2015 but also concerts by Culture Club and Tonic. Rain marred all three events, putting a temporary -- but apparently not permanent -- damper on Madeira Beach's concert scene.
