97X Next Big Thing set times, lineup changes: The details on Thirty Seconds to Mars, A Day to Remember, Sleeping With Sirens and more
Alt-rock station 97X has announced the set times for its annual Next Big Thing concert on Saturday at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. But first, a bit of bad news: British rockers The 1975 have had to drop out of the Next Big Thing 13 lineup due to a scheduling conflict. According to the station, "They have promised to return to Tampa to play for 97X fans very soon."
In The 1975's place on the Next Big Thing lineup card will be Sleepwave, above, the brand-spanking-new outfit led by Spencer Chamberlain, singer of hugely successful Christian metalcore outfit Underoath, who disbanded following a final hometown show at Jannus Live in January. Sleepwave — who played their first-ever show in November, at the State Theatre — may have more mainstream potential than Underoath; grunge-punk single Rock And Roll Is Dead And So Am I sounds a bit like Mutemath channeling Linkin Park.
One more note before we get to the Next Big Thing set times: At 9 p.m. Friday, there will be a free Next Big Thing kickoff party featuring an acoustic performance by the Dirty Heads at Hogan’s Beach. So if you can't make it to Vinoy Park on Saturday, that might be the next best thing.
Here are the set times for 97X Next Big Thing 13, Dec. 7 at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg:
8:40 p.m.: Thirty Seconds to Mars
7:15: Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington
6:05: A Day to Remember
5: Jimmy Eat World
4:30: Dirty Heads
3:30: Sleepwave (second stage)
2:50: Frank Turner
2:15: Sleeping With Sirens (second stage)
1:05: Saints of Valory (second stage)
