Are Beyoncé and Jay Z living in Tampa? That's the buzz on Davis Islands
It's been a week since our last Beyoncé near-sighting in Tampa, when her husband Jay Z stopped by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' workout facility to hobnob with Jameis Winston.
But on Davis Islands, rumors have been swirling that the superstar couple is staying in a waterfront home there as Beyoncé prepares for next week's Formation Tour kickoff in Florida, including an April 29 show at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium.
Several people who said they work for the tour have popped into businesses along E Davis Boulevard, including Farrell's on the Island.
"I always ask customers where they're from. They told me," said owner Todd Farrell.
Some of them, he believed. Others, he thought might've been stretching the truth. And as for the Queen herself?
"I haven't seen Beyoncé, if that's what you're asking," Farrell said.
TeBella Tea Company has seen a few celebrities come through over the years, including Broadway and Frozen star Idina Menzel last fall, along with numerous athletes, such as Davis Islands A-lister Derek Jeter.
"We see hockey players and football players every day," said manager Brooke Bastarache, whose staff has been on Beyoncé watch all week. "Beyoncé coming to town is on a different level."
While the rumors are the talk of Davis Islands, there's been no official confirmation that the couple is actually crashing there.
The owner of record for a house rumored to be theirs hung up on a Times reporter who called. When a Times photographer stopped by the house, two men rushed over. They asked to see his ID and took photos of his face and license plate. They didn't identify themselves as Beyoncé's security. Instead, one asked: "Are you paparazzi?"
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, himself a Davis Islands resident, would not confirm or deny that the superstar couple had become temporary neighbors.
"If indeed they are, they are welcome. We’re excited to have them," Buckhorn said. "I hope they decide to buy a house on Davis Islands. We wish her all the best."
