Beyonce Week: In 2001, Destiny's Child outshone the rest of the MTV's TRL Tour in Tampa
Remember MTV's Total Request Live? Remember how it was such a phenomenon back in the day? Remember how it once had its own arena tour?
You don't? Oh, well let us remind you.
In 2001, the MTV TRL Tour brought some of the most popular pop groups of the minute to cities across America. The headliner that year was Destiny's Child -- Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Other acts on the bill included Eve, Nelly and a pair of pop groups, Dream and 3LW.
But no one held a candle to Destiny's Child on that night.
"The act wwas the bill's only to utilize a live backing band, adding depth to its delivery," wrote the Times' Gina Vivinetto. "The momentum didn't die as the trio zipped through the hits Bills, Bills, Bills and the irresistible Say My Name. ... The set's highlight was certainly the smash hits Survivor and Bootylicious, with each Child, now donning a fedora, shimmying her 'jelly.'"
