Bob Dylan coming to Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater
Bob Dylan may not have the voice he once had, but c'mon: He's Bob Freaking Dylan. And when he announces a concert in your area -- especially one in a relatively intimate theater -- you'd better pay attention.
Dylan on Thursday announced a round of Spring concert dates that include Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater on April 22. The legendary songwriter has played Tampa Bay numerous times over the past few years, but this'll be his first concert at Ruth Eckerd Hall since 1992.
No ticket prices have been announced, but Tickets are $72.75-$289.50, and Dylan's website says they'll go on sale to the public at noon Feb. 21. Click here and here for details. (If you can't snag a ticket, Dylan will also be at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on April 19; click here for details.)
What can you expect? Well, a lot of Frank Sinatra, for one thing. The always inscrutable Dylan just released Shadows In the Night, a surprising new tribute to Ol' Blue Eyes. And perhaps Ruth Eckerd Hall's impeccable acoustics will do a better job with Dylan's rascally honk than Tampa's MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in 2013. Dylan's voice, wrote tbt*'s Sean Daly, was an "electrocuted-bullfrog croak" featuring "ragged phrasing" that was "near-unrecognizable" at times.
But hey, it's Dylan! If you want to hear Sinatra the way Sinatra sang it, go check out Michael Buble. About 2,100 fans at Ruth Eckerd Hall will want to hear Dylan do it his way.
