It was just last August when Boy George and his revived, reinvigorated Culture Club drew a crowd to Madeira Beach’s new R.O.C. Park bandshell with the band touring for the first time in 15 years with their original lineup.

That tour drew rave reviews, including ours, and on Monday the band announced a global, 40-city tour that will bring Culture Club to St. Petersburg’s Mahaffey Theater on July 6.

The last time Culture Club was in the area, the day was a soggy mess. But Culture Club put on a great show, with Boy George dressed a bit like a circus ringleader in a sharply feathered top hat. He charmed the crowd with the dub-like Let Somebody Love You, from their new album Tribes; and I’ll Tumble 4 Ya, for the diehard fans.

This tour will again bring the band’s original lineup of Boy George, bassist Mikey Craig, guitarist/keyboardist Roy Hay and drummer Jon Moss, plus a host of backing instrumentalists and vocalists.

Tickets are $69.50-$129.50, and they go on sale Friday at noon at themahaffey.com or (727) 893-7832. You can avoid surcharges by buying tickets in person at The Mahaffey Theater box office, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg, open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
