Brian Wilson bringing final 'Pet Sounds' tour to the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg
This year marks the 50th anniversary of one of the greatest albums of all time, the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. To mark the occasion, singer, songwriter and Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson is taking Pet Sounds out on the road one last time.
Wilson has announced plans to perform Pet Sounds in full on an extensive 2016 tour, which will include a stop at St. Petersburg's Mahaffey Theater on Sept. 13. According to his website, he'll be joined by longtime collaborators Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin at most, if not all, of the dates. Ticket prices have not yet been announced, but we'll keep you posted.
Pet Sounds, for the uninitiated, is the wildly ambitious sonic experiment that elevated the band to new levels of critical acclaim and is widely acknowledged as the inspiration for the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It features all-time Beach Boys classics like God Only Knows, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B and Caroline No. Wilson will also perform plenty of other solo and Beach Boys hits.
When we talked to Jardine before November's concert by Wilson at the Mahaffey Theater, he hinted a Pet Sounds 50th anniversary tour was in the works, but didn't say anything about this being the last chance we'd all have to hear it live. That's an opportunity you won't want to miss.
