Can Wil Myers' Motley Crue walkup music kick-start the Rays out of an 0-2 deficit?
The screechy violins of Tantric's Down and Out are some of the most popular musical notes in Tampa Bay. Why? They signify that Tampa Bay Rays slugger Evan Longoria is about to come to the plate.
But another rock anthem is gaining traction at the Trop. Rookie Wil Myers' walkup song, Motley Crue's Kickstart My Heart, has become a favorite among fans. And when the Rays return to the Trop today, hoping to dig out of an 0-2 hole against the Boston Red Sox in the American League Division Series, Myers' Motley Crue obsession may be the key that sparks a rally.
"When you hear Kickstart, you know that something exciting's about to happen," says Mike "Cowhead" Calta, who uses the song, plus other Crue hits, as bumper music on his radio show on 102.5 the Bone. "There's nothing slow about Kickstart My Heart. Nothing boring about that song. And even if you were bored, that just woke you up."
