Artist of the day: DJ Short-e

Dj.shorte

If you don't know DJ Short-e from his work spinning top 40 hits and videos at clubs like Whiskey North, Malio's, and Hyde Park Cafe, you might know him from his own TV show.

That's right, for a few years in the mid-2000s, the New York/Miami/Tampa DJ hosted The Short-e Show, which mixed celebrity interviews, music videos and other club lifestyle features, and aired on Tampa's UPN 44 a few years back. Among Short-e's guests: Wyclef, Akon, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Ne-Yo and more. Short-e's celebrity connections have paid off -- in February, he hosted Diddy's annual Super Bowl party in Miami.  ... Artist of the day: Lady Duet

Lady.duet

Selethia Godwin, a.k.a. Lady Duet, has been pushing her clubby, synthy single Break It Down hard in early 2010, and with good reason -- it pumps through the speakers like a wave sugary, sexy energy; think Usher's Yeah mixed with John Legend's Green Light. Other songs are more Missy Elliott or Khia (especially the hot 'n' sticky Babymama), and she's not afraid to play up her sex appeal to draw attention to her edgy sound. ... Read more

House of the Holy: Sunday School comes to Bourbon Street

Solomons.temple

Tony Cilluffo runs a "rock and roll church" at the Bourbon Street nightclub in New Port Richey, though he won’t take credit for it.

"God definitely had a way of making this happen," he said.

From 5 to 7 p.m. each Sunday, people gather around the stage in the back of the dimly lit bar, Bibles on tables in front of some of them, listening to an inspirational sermon, scriptures and, of course, rock and roll — from local Christian bands. On a recent Sunday, this is what you might have heard from the Christian rock band Solomon’s Temple, above, which volunteered to play: “You are holy, you are holy, you are holy in this place.”

‚ÄúWe dive in and help these people and show them that we‚Äôre real and go through life struggles,‚Äù Cilluffo said. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs a neat way for people to relate to us. We don‚Äôt act religious, we just give them a helping hand.‚Äù
