Chick Corea talks Scientology, living in Clearwater, his Blue Note residency and more
For nearly 20 years, jazz fusion legend Chick Corea has lived in Clearwater. But he's been coming here for much longer than that.
Corea joined the Church of Scientology in the mid-'70s, and became coming here for courses when the church purchased the old Fort Harrison Hotel and established Clearwater as its worldwide spiritual base.
"Once we settled in here, it's got everything I want," Corea said in a phone interview from Ukraine, where he was preparing for a concert in Kiev. "When I come home off the road, my main thing is to create and compose and make new music, and study and enhance myself every way that I can.
"It just works for me at this time in my life."
Corea will return Wednesday for his first headlining concert at the Capitol Theatre, just around the block from his downtown recording studio. Click here for details on the show.
