Classic music superstar André Rieu coming to Tampa
Classic music superstar André Rieu is coming to Tampa's Amalie Arena on Nov. 1. Tickets go on sale Friday ("Just in time for Valentine’s Day," Amalie helpfully suggests) for the "King of Romance."
A rock star of the classical set, he opened Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars playing My Heart Will Go On with his precious Stradivarius violin from 1732. Rieu has sold 40 million CDs and DVDs and notched 30 No. 1 chart positions worldwide.
Along with his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra (the largest private orchestra in the world), he is credited with creating a global revival in waltz music. His live shows sold more tickets than Coldplay, AC/DC and Bruce Springsteen last year.
Unlike stodgy orchestra shows, Rieu goes for spectacle and charistma, and people regularly jump to their feet and dance in the aisles (see video above).
Tickets are $39-$99 at Ticketmaster, on sale at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
