2011 Langerado Music Festival canceled
Looks like we can kill one of these festivals from this poll.
The Langerado Music Festival, set for Oct. 8 and 9 in Sunrise, with headliners like Death Cab For Cutie (above), Trey Anastasio, Ween, Ben Harper and more, has been canceled. No information was immediately given, but we would suspect slow ticket sales. And the arrival of an even bigger festival in the Sunshine State, Orlando Calling, probably didn't help.
This isn't the first time this has happened. In 2009, Langerado was canceled due to less-than-enthusiastic ticket sales. (That year's headliner was also scheduled to be Deat Cab For Cutie. COINCIDENCE?!?!? Probably.) At any rate, we suspect this is the last we'll be hearing about Langerado for a while. Refund info is available here.
As for us music fans in Tampa Bay? It's poachin' time!
A handful of Langerado bands were already planning to stop by Tampa Bay on their way to and from Sunrise (Ween, Arctic Monkeys, Yuck, Das Racist). Now all these other groups may suddenly have an unexpected opening on their schedule. What can we do to convince Death Cab to come to Tampa Bay instead of Orlando? Childish Gambino already has an Orlando date that weekend; how about adding a Tampa date? Thievery Corporation, Mates of State, Wolfgang Gartner, Ghostland Observatory ... surely someone can step up and book these free-agent bands, right? RIGHT!??!?
