50 Cent talks weight loss photos, Oscar buzz and Dr. Dre
When Sean Daly got 50 Cent on the phone recently to preview his the hip-hop superstar's concert Wednesday at Jannus Live, the first question wasn't about In Da Club or Candy Shop or getting shot nine times. It was about those photos that showed 50 Cent looking weak, skinny and emaciated after losing some 50 pounds for a role in the film Things Fall Apart, about a football player with cancer.
"I read a lot about what De Niro went through in Raging Bull," Fiddy said. Tom Hanks losing the weight in Philadelphia. Christian Bale losing weight for The Machinist, which was so extreme, I felt like I had to go beyond that. One out of eight people in the world dies of cancer. Chances are, if it's not one of us on the phone, then someone we know will die of cancer."
And the fact that people are already wondering if an Oscar nomination might be in the works for the rapper? "Wow, man, from your mouth to God's ears."
50 Cent performs with Lloyd Banks at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jannus Live, 16 Second St. N, St. Petersburg. Tickets are $42.50. Click here for details.
