97X Backyard BBQ: Flobots, Paper Tongues, NeedToBreathe lead lineup
On the scale of 97X concerts worth getting excited about, the Memorial Day Backyard BBQ falls somewhere between Next Big Thing and Fisher and Boy's Birthday Bash. It's a good, cheap show, but not so good that you wouldn't drop whatever you're doing to check it out.
We're a bit late in posting this, but we thought it was worth getting out there: This year's 97X Memorial Day BBQ features a mix of alternative rock (Paper Tongues, Crash Kings, American Bang), Christian emo-pop (NeedToBreathe) and pop, rock and hip-hop hybrids (Flobots (above), Richy Nix). It's an eclectic lineup, though it doesn't excite us as much as last year's show, which featured the Airborne Toxic Event and Mute Math.
Still, for $10, it's a pretty good deal -- and there are games, Moto X demonstrations and a beer garden, so it's worth checking out. The show is May 29 at Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg; click here for details.
As usual, local bands can enter to win a spot on the bill -- although the deadline is today at noon, so if you haven't entered by now, you'd better get on it. Previous winners include Not Tonight Josephine and Drew Street Mary.
