Al Jarreau, Neville Brothers lead 2009 Clearwater Jazz Festival lineup

In August, the Neville Brothers were announced as one of the headlining acts for this year's Clearwater Jazz Festival, alongside Chris Botti and Boney James. But organizers promised they still had one more big name to announce: The opening-night headliner.

Over the weekend, we got confirmation that the Big Name is Al Jarreau. Not exactly Miles Davis, but eh, the man has won five Grammys. That's more than we've won (for now!).

Credit to blogger/writer/jazzman Philip Booth, who called it on Aug. 26. He wasn't thrilled about the news, either. "I'd crossed my fingers that, at least for the headlining act on opening night, the Jazz Holiday might have booked a major jazz artist -- Sonny Rollins, anyone?" he wrote. "Not gonna happen."

This year's Clearwater Jazz Festival is Oct. 15-18 at Coachman Park in downtown Clearwater, and, as always, it's free. Go here for details.
