Alli That Girl: Wild 94.1's drive-time DJ turns to improv comedy
Popular and provocative Wild 94.1 DJ Alli That Girl is in New York this weekend for the MTV Video Music Awards. But when she returns to Tampa Bay, she'll be embarking on a new labor of love: Improv comedy.
Last month, the popular hip-hop DJ, who spins from 3 to 7 p.m. weekdays, became the newest member of the local improv comedy troupe Got Jokes?, and she's already gearing up for her first performance, Sept. 24 at Channelside Cinemas.
"I’ve always wanted to do stand-up, but I’m so nervous," says Alli, a.k.a. Allison Barnett of St. Petersburg. "It’s one of those things where I always had it on my list of things to do. I think I kind of do improv every day on the radio, so this seemed like the baby step into possibly doing stand-up. ... And it’s a little “me” time. A little something I can do away from work and away from family."
