With another tribute concert and a 'Hippie Hop,' will this Woodstock mania never end?
Doesn't look like it. Just yesterday, we told you that WMNF is staging a sequel to its massively popular 40th anniversary tribute concert at Skipper's Smokehouse. That show sold out in a hurry, so organizers want to give you a second chance to see it. A full lineup of performers (and who they'll be imitating) is after the jump.
And on Friday, the Beach Theatre in St. Pete Beach is bringing back Woodstock: The Director's Cut for an encore showing. Showtime is at 7 p.m. Friday for the 4-hour extravaganza. Click here for details.
But this weekend, the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is taking a different approach to Woodstock retrobilia.
Burk Uzzle’s Woodstock and Other Americana, a new exhibit by the noted Woodstock photographer, kicks off this weekend with a Hippie Hop, in which participants (preferably dressed in their best '60s attire) can view the exhibit, then jump on the yellow trolley bus to area restaurants and bars.
Central to the show are three black and white pictures — among them the iconic shot of a couple standing in an embrace under a quilt, above — from philanthropists, collectors and museums.
The Downtown Hippie Hop is from 5:30 p.m. to midnight Saturday starting at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, 200 N Tampa St. Tickets are $15 at the door or online at tampasdowntown.com. Burk Uzzle himself will give a gallery talk that morning at 10:30. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
