Arctic Monkeys coming to the Ritz Ybor in Tampa

Yay, more Langerado runoff for Tampa!

A few days after we learned that festival co-headliner Ween is coming to Jannus Live, another top bill announced plans for a Tampa tour stop that same weekend: Arctic Monkeys. The Brit-rockers will come to the Ritz Ybor on Oct. 9, a day after performing in Sunrise.

Time was, we would have been shocked to see a British band with such a noteworthy profile playing a show in our area. And, in fact, it was shocking when the Monkeys announced a show at the Ritz in April 2010. But that show went so well -- it sold out, and some fans waited in line up to eight hours for front-row seats -- that the band must have figured Tampa was owed a return visit in support of their new album, Suck It And See.

During that show, singer Alex Turner undoubtedly won over our reviewer:

I never really studied Alex Turner and I still haven’t decoded his appeal, but men and women were head over grimy tennies the moment he stepped out. ... A pack of my greasy friends and I got the great opportunity to inhale his cigarette smoke outside the front of the club, while clueless fans sat patiently in the back of the club. Just shows you how fast a girl can be charmed by mystery, red doe eyes and the words “Agile Beast” written on a drum set for no apparent reason.

The Smith Westerns will open this show. Tickets are $28. Click here to get 'em.
