Artist of the day: Al Torchia and the Tattered Saints
In honor of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's performance Saturday night at the Ford Amphitheatre, here's an artist that was definitely influenced by Springsteen: Al Torchia and the Tattered Saints.
Torchia, 27, writes and performs arena-rock screamers about life in Tampa Bay with the anthemic chords and energy of the Replacements, Bon Jovi or the Hold Steady.
"I love where I come from and where I've lived my whole life," said Torchia, who lives in St. Pete. "I really try to get that out in my songwriting. I think it's really important to have pride in where your from, and I'm just one of the lucky ones to be able to call this place home. Torchia, formerly of Standing Shadows, has been mixing new material this summer, and playing steady gigs around town.
