Artist of the day: The Ambassy

With tight ska-punk chops and energy, the Ambassy — vocalist/bassist Elliot Dickinson, trombonist/vocalist Will Brant, trombonist Vinny DeFrancesco, guitarist Darrin Gobble and drummer John MacDonald — calls themselves "your new favorite ska band."

"I think we would describe our sound as a catchy blend of ska, reggae, and rock elements," said Dickinson, "and because of that we are able to appeal to people even if they are not fans of each genre."

As they finish up their new EP, you have two chances to check them out this weekend. On Saturday, they're performing at the Orpheum with Angry Banana, the Real Deal, the Duppies and Rude Squad. Tickets are $8-$10. And on Saturday, they're planning to participate in the Exposure Music Festival band battle at the State Theatre. Doors open at 11 a.m.; tickets are $12. Click here for details.
