Artist of the day: April Phillips

Orlando-area country singer April Phillips (above, with her band) has opened for the likes of Blake Shelton, Craig Morgan and the Charlie Daniels Band over the years.

Her music is polished, Nashville country with an edge -- and it's hard-driving, fun-loving and zero-B.S.-taking. "If you think that you can cheat girls like me like we're a dime a dozen / then you don't know your way around a woman," she sings on Your Way Around A Woman. And on Girls Will Be Girls: "Red wine? No way / It's Miller on tap and a shot of Jose."

On Saturday (2/5), she'll perform at St. Petersburg's second annual Wingfest, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Vinoy Park. She's scheduled to go on from 2 to 4 p.m. Click here for details on Wingfest.
