Artist of the day: Aqua Groove
Aqua Groove is a family band, but not like Kings of Leon, or even the Partridge Family. They're "made up of husbands and wives, father-in-law, brother-in-law and friends," writes trumpeter Julie White.
That's right: trumpeter. This is no ordinary fly-by-night cover band.
The related members of Aqua Groove had been playing professionally for years before deciding to form their own band seven years ago. Today, the lineup includes Jamie Topolski (vocals), Richard Topolski (tenor sax), Julie White, Boyd White (trombone), Jim White (drums), Tom Kurt (keyboard and vocals), Brian Madrinan (guitar, bass, vocals) and Eric Hoegstrom. Influenced by the likes of Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire, the group plays covers of songs from the '50s to the '90s at weddings, corporate events and celebrity parties around Tampa Bay.
"You will not find any synthesized horns, karaoke tracks, or drum machines in our music," White said.
See for yourself on Nov. 25, when Aqua Groove performs at Coasters Bar and Grille in Indian Rocks Beach. There's no cover.
