Artist of the day: Ascending to Avalon

Ex-signees of Mohawk Bomb Records, Palm Harbor's Ascending to Avalon blends '90s-like modern rock and grunge with proggy punk and jam to produce a catchy, highly polished sound.

On the 2009 EP Wake the Sleeping Sun, the band's music soars in Foo Fighters/Incubus fashion, thanks to the acrobatic vocals of Ryen Gerson and the nimble guitarwork of Eric Bourne and Gerson. Drummer Lance Miller and bassist Brett Johnson round out the group.

They just completed a new album, Behold the Wicked, that's available digitally, and they're working on getting "prettied-up limited edition physical ones in soonish." The album is trippier and more experimental than Wake the Sleeping Sun, yet deeper, darker, bluesier and punkier, too.

Below, check out a song from Wake the Sleeping Sun.
