Artist of the day: Backtrack Blues Band

Opening for Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a pretty good gig for a blues band. So is opening for Tinsley Ellis. And for the Backtrack Blues Band, that’s just this fall. Over the years, the local blues collective has also performed alongside everyone from B.B. King to Buddy Guy to Stevie Ray Vaughan to John Lee Hooker.

Sonny Charles (vocals, harmonica), Spider Ingram and Little Johnny Walter (guitar), Eddie St. Clair (bass) and Joe Bencomo (drums) play plugged-in, booty-shufflin’ Chicago blues, as captured in their live CD Captured Alive, which was, well, captured live during a Little Walter tribute concert at the Palladium last fall.

The Backtrack Blues Band will open for Tinsley Ellis on Saturday at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa. Tickets are $12-$15. Click here.
