Artist of the day: Baker Bruce Band

baker.bruce_.band_.jpgFor starters, "Baker Bruce" isn't a guy. Neither is "Bruce Baker," for that matter.

Baker Bruce Band's name comes from drummer Bruce Davis and bassist Roy Baker. Singer-guitarists Rexdel Camp and Bob Gardner, Keyboardist Mitch Mitchell and percussionist David McPherson round out the group.

The group plays mostly classic rock covers, including plenty by the likes of the Allman Brothers and Jethro Tull (Gardner plays flute), at bars around the area. That should serve them well when they perform Saturday as part of "Do Me Like That," a Tom Petty tribute concert organized by WMNF-88.5. Baker Bruce Band will perform Runnin' Down a Dream, Last Dance With Mary Jane and Won't Back Down.

The show starts at 6 p.m. Saturday with artists like Alexander and the Grapes, Will Quinlan, Kore, Hat Trick Heroes and more, all performing Tom Petty covers. Tickets are $12-$15.
