Artist of the day: Beanstalk
Forget the cow. Ten bucks for a little Beanstalk magic is the better deal. The talented Tampa instrumental outfit enjoyed moderate success in the late '90s with slick and funky jazz jams in the vein of Victor Wooten and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe.
Last spring, the band reunited to play their first show in more than eight years. Bassist Andy Irvine, who adeptly handles his large, orchestral double bass "as if it were a Guitar Hero accessory," scored a feature interview in Bass Player magazine, a testament to his ability. Guitarist Joel Lisi and drummer Billy Carr flesh out the funktastic sound of Beanstalk.
The group will perform a rare reunion show at 6 p.m. Sunday at Play, 1701 E Eighth Ave., Tampa. Click here for details.
