Artist of the day: Becca McCoy
Becca McCoy is an actor-singer who grew up in St. Petersburg, graduated from Eckerd College and has fashioned a stage career that includes credits from 15 theaters in seven states. She and her husband and their young daughter live in Palatka, and she has appeared recently in Blithe Spirit at American Stage and The Wild Party at freeFall Theatre.
This fall, she did a cabaret show, Love With the Lights On, that she called a "completely Rodgers and Hammerstein-free evening,'' and she wasn't joking. The program that she performed with pianist James Weaver was loaded with musical theater songs you don't hear very often, if ever, in a nightclub setting: As If We'd Never Said Goodbye from Sunset Boulevard; Everybody's Girl from Steel Pier; Loving You from Passion; Talk Amongst Yourselves from Taboo, to name a few.
McCoy, along with Weaver, performs carols, original songs and seasonal favorites in her show “Not So Silent Night’’ at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the New American Theater, 183 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg. (It's the old Ann Taylor space in BayWalk.) Tickets are $15. Click here for details.
