Artist of the day: Bertie Higgins

Yes! THAT Bertie Higgins! Of Key Largo ("We had it all, just like Bogie and Bacall...") fame!

Higgins, as you may know, hails from Tarpon Springs, and that one song made his reputation as one of the greatest one-hit-wonders of all time.

But DID YOU KNOW Higgins is also a movie producer? This week, he's back in Tarpon Springs promoting the third movie under h is Cayo Largo Productions banner. It's a drug smuggling drama titled Through the Eye directed by Higgins' son Julian. The elder Higgins co-wrote the script and co-stars as a Greek boat captain from — where else? — Tarpon Springs, running afoul of a crooked cop, played by Hollywood bad boy Tom Sizemore.

Higgins will be present for a screening of Through the Eye at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Palm Harbor 10, 37912 U.S. 19 N. Admission is free, with an after-show party at Dockside Sports Bar and Grill. Through the Eye will be shown again on Thursday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8, proceeds benefit National Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Memorial Museum, and Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary.
