Artist of the day: The Best Day Ever
In 2011, The Best Day Ever won Creative Loafing’s Best of the Bay award for Best Local Cover Band. Which is nice, but c’mon, who doesn’t want to play originals?
So on a recent six-month tour on Carnival Cruise Lines, The Best Day Ever — singer Lauren Elizabeth, singer-bassist Stuart Best, guitarist David Day and drummer Kat G. — wrote a 23-song concept album, A Thousand Year Love Story.
“We’re approaching the music industry in a completely new way, releasing our full album over the span of several months,” Day wrote in an email. “Each release will be comprised of a particular ‘chapter’ to the story concept spanning 3-6 songs.” The first chapter, Chapter One: Love Ritual, came out at the end of October, and the first song, Stars, is a pounding pop-rock song with anthemic strings and rhythm.
The Best Day Ever will perform at 1 p.m. Friday at Ribfest at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. Other artists on this weekend’s bill include Buddy Guy, Heart, Montgomery Gentry, Jonny Lang and Shawn Colvin. Click here for all the details on Ribfest.
