Between Bluffs may have just invented a genre. We'll call it folkdub.

The group's debut CD, Mountain Nearing, is a catchy and earthy blend of alt-country, folk, jazz, pop, modern rock and, on songs like Two Lovers and Row Your Boat, more than a little ska and reggae. But make no mistake, the trio is more Blue Ridge than 2 Tone -- there's an adventurous, soaring country-folk influence across the board. Album closer Loss For Words is worth checking out for anyone who's a fan of Mumford and Sons. It's a sound that'll go down smooth with the WMNF set.

The trio -- Brad Myers, Justin Davis and Jerrod Simpson -- play a variety of instruments, including guitar, mandolin, upright bass and banjo, with a handful of friends helping out on percussion and other instruments. They met in 2010 at an open mic in Dunedin -- which is where they'll be this weekend, celebrating the release of Mountain Nearing.

The show is at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Dunedin House of Beer, 927 Broadway. If you live on the other side of the bay, they'll be at the Independent, 5016 N Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights. CDs will be on sale at both shows for $5.
