Ever heard of a genre called "nujazz and chill?" Us neither. But that doesn't stop us from appreciating singer Bickley Rivera, a singer her drummer, David Nunez, describes as "Sade meets Enya meets Paul Hardcastle."

We think even fans of Thievery Corporation might be impressed. Rivera plays steel pan while singing in an ethereal voice. The end result is a trippy blend of jazz, samba and '80s R&B, with a distinct island/world flair. It's very easy-listening -- her website describes how her music has been featured in Muzak programming and on the Weather Channel -- but sometimes, when you're trying to chill out, that's just what you need. Her latest CD, Chillin' After Five, was released in 2010.

On Saturday, Rivera will perform at the seventh annual Vino, Java and Jazz affair, benefitting Easter Seals, at the Florida Aquarium. The event is 7 to 11 p.m., and tickets start at $75. There will be food, wine, a silent auction and more.

She'll be performing with a high-quality jazz band, including Nunez, guitarists Mark Barrios and TFoxx, bassist Nelson Rivera and saxophonist Fernando Diez. Click here for details on the gig.
