Artist of the day: Blast and the Detergents

It's been a busy year for Tampa noise-punk trio Blast and the Detergents.

In April, the band -- singer-guitarist Chris Nadeau, guitarist Alex Nadeau and drummer Ben Mast -- released a self-produced CD called Time Misses a Beat, which you can download here. In September, they did a split 7: with Ghost Hospital, which you can get here.

And they've kept playing shows whenever and wherever they can, including with other bands (Chris plays with Permanent Makeup and Modern TV, Alex plays with Ghost Hospital and Ben plays with Crow's Foot). Their travels in 2010 took them as far as San Antonio, Texas, and they're looking to book another tour in early 2011.

On Saturday, Blast and the Detergents are playing what they're calling a four-year retrospective -- "We've been a band for 4 years and we're playing a show," Nadeau said simply -- at Mojo Books and Music in Tampa. It starts at 6 p.m. and will feature a handful of opening acts.

In the meantime, check out their cover of the Beatles' Help during a show at Fubar in St. Pete.
